- WebP for the smallest files on a modern website. JPG when something downstream might be picky and you need maximum compatibility. PNG when you need transparency or a lossless copy.
- Does converting lose quality?
- Converting to PNG is lossless. Converting to JPG or WebP is lossy but quality-adjustable, and at reasonable settings the difference is effectively invisible. Repeatedly re-encoding the same image through lossy formats does accumulate damage, so convert from your original when you can.
- What happens to transparency when I convert to JPG?
- JPG can't store transparency, so transparent regions are composited onto a white background. That avoids the black backgrounds you get from naive converters. If you need the transparency, choose PNG or WebP instead.
- Are there usage or file-size limits?
- Runs are unlimited. Files can be up to 50 MB, and batch tools accept up to 50 files at once.
